On the way to Lucena

The old road linking Cabra and Lucena runs, in some sections, parallel to the current dual-carriageway that connects Estepa and Guadix. The construction of this modern road long ago relegated the old Lucena road to serving only the farmhouses and country homes located in the Cuesta Ancha area, whilst at the same time transforming it into a route with immense potential for leisure and sporting activities. Starting, therefore, at the junction between the new and old Lucena roads, near the spot known as Cuesta de la Dama Juana, the route winds its way through the ancient olive groves that mark the boundary between the two municipalities. Olive trees laden with age, with thick trunks and numerous knots, will accompany us on a journey offering fascinating scenery. The foothills of the Alamedal stream offer plenty of opportunities to pause amongst the olive trees and enjoy spectacular views of the mountain ranges that make up the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. At the same time, large, imposing and restored farmhouses dedicated to olive production line the well-maintained dirt tracks; indeed, some of these buildings, such as the Cortijo de la Corredera, have diversified their activities to include horse breeding, offering beautiful visual contrasts amidst the monotony of the olive groves. The greenway, on this route, serves as a link so that, upon reaching the outskirts of Lucena town centre, you can access the path popularly known as the Camino de Lucero and complete a circular route that will take you back to the old Lucena road.
