The Llano Madero Trail

The Llano Madero path is one of the main rural routes in the municipality of Cabra. It starts in the town centre, near the Mojardín bridge, the San José cemetery and next to a fountain known as the Prado de Rute, which is a regular stopping point for those visiting the cemetery on foot. From here, moving away from the town’s nearby vegetable gardens, we enter the heart of the Cabra olive groves. The route passes through many different landscapes and provides access to numerous estates, so much so that a large part of it is tarmac-surfaced. Places such as the aforementioned Prado de Rute, the San Cristóbal Lagoon, El Campillo and the Alamedal stream showcase the variety of landscapes and ecosystems it encompasses. Once the Llano Madero path ends, the route connects with the greenway via the Cruz de la Mujer path. Over time, this route has been of great importance to Cabra, connecting our town with the neighbouring town of Lucena. However, disuse, the existence of other routes offering better and faster access, as well as changes in the terrain, such as increasingly steep-sided streams, have led to its disappearance in many sections. The return journey, once you have left the greenway, follows the San Cristóbal path, which coincides with the old Gaena footpath, taking you back to the starting point after a pleasant stroll through some of the landscapes without which it would be difficult to understand the history and unique character of life in Cabra.
