The Zagrilla Spring to Las Majadas de El Esparragal Trail

Route description This trail starts at the Fuente de Zagrilla, where water gushes abundantly from between the rocks, pooling in a large basin before flowing towards the most beautiful of the area’s washing places. The construction of this washing place was funded in 1935 by Niceto Alcalá-Zamora, the first president of the Second Spanish Republic. In earlier times, the water then flowed towards a mill and on to a stream, which carried it through orchards and quince groves via other, larger watercourses. Today it flows beneath several houses and resurfaces near the old mill. The trail ends at the Fuente de las Majadas, in the neighbouring hamlet of El Esparragal. Along its route of just over three kilometres, you can see numerous watchtowers and enjoy wonderful views of the Horconera massif. The trail runs largely along a footpath parallel to the road, which is accessible to people with reduced mobility, passing through the beautiful hamlet of El Esparragal until it reaches the Fuente de las Majadas, the end of our trail. The return journey follows the same route as the outward leg.
