Granaino Path

El Granaino is the name given in Cabra to the area situated south of the Camino de los Callejones, specifically where it meets the A-318 road, the future ‘Olivar’ motorway. It is precisely near this motorway that the stream giving its name to the whole area has its source. This is due to the presence of a small spring, with a low flow but one that persists throughout the year, which is the source of a watercourse whose catchment area collects rainwater from a large area of land, eventually flowing into the River Cabra. The proposed route crosses this stream and climbs the slopes of the river basin until it reaches the San Francisco de Paula farmhouse, an old building notable for the great height of its walls, which enclose an inner courtyard accessed through large wooden doors. From here, following an old path—now lost amongst endless rows of olive trees—we reach the municipal boundary of Lucena, where, once within the town limits, we join a path that, in this instance, remains open to the public. Throughout this route, which is predominantly olive groves, we will gradually ascend, allowing us to enjoy unbeatable views of the entire Sierra de Cabra massif and most of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park. At the highest point of the route, we will begin to catch sight of the town centre of Lucena. Just on the outskirts and before entering the town, we will turn off to join the old Camino de Castro del Río, which will take us back to the starting point of the route, showing us a little-used path that once formed one of the most important communication routes between Cabra and the neighbouring town of Lucena.
