Chapel of Our Lady of Fátima
The Chapel of Our Lady of Fátima is the heart of the hamlet of Algar (Carcabuey). This humble white chapel hosts its famous and joyful pilgrimage every May.
The Church or Chapel of Our Lady of Fátima is the main spiritual focal point and the heart of community life in Algar, a quiet and picturesque village of Arab origin situated some 8 kilometres from the town centre of Carcabuey. This simple chapel, built in the traditional rural and popular Andalusian style, houses the venerated image of Our Lady of Fátima, patron saint of the village alongside St John the Baptist. Every year, at the beginning of June, the chapel and its surroundings become the epicentre of Algar’s traditional patron saint festivities, attracting numerous locals and visitors who gather for a moving procession, days of socialising and recreational activities that keep alive the roots, hospitality and identity of this beautiful spot in the heart of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park.
