Calvary Chapel

Calvary Chapel

Located near the last house on Calle del Calvario, this historic building features a bell tower and offers an atmosphere of peace and reflection.

Located about twenty metres from the last house onCalle del Calvario, the building comprises two rooms (the sacristy and the church) and a bell tower.

Its creation stemmed from a promise made by a soldier on a day of danger at the front during theSpanish Civil Warof 1936–39. Once the conflict was over and true to his word, he took the necessary steps with the parish priest of Fuente-Tójar and received authorisation for its construction.

Some time after this authorisation was granted, work began on the new chapel. The soldier in question, who was born in Fuente Tójar, as were his parents, raised funds amongst the local residents, appointingAntonio Ortega González as treasurer of these funds.
