BAROQUE ROUTE

Discover the splendour of the Baroque in southern Córdoba, with monuments such as the Sagrario de San Mateo and the Palace of the Counts of Santa Ana.
The south of Córdoba is a key destination for understanding the city’s Baroque art. Thanks to their wealth of historic buildings, Lucena, Priego and Cabra are essential stops on this route. Córdoba’s Baroque style reaches its peak in the imposing Chapel of San Mateo, within the parish church of the same name, which is also regarded as the true cathedral of the Subbética region. The Baroque heritage of Lucena is best appreciated by visiting the Palace of the Counts of Santa Ana, the churches of San Juan Bautista and San Martín, and the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Araceli. An atmosphere of seclusion and spirituality pervades the beautiful cloister of the Franciscan church, or Church of the Mother of God.
