In the historic centre of Lucena we find this square dedicated to the town of Archidona, which has been twinned with our town since 1995, the year in which the 400th anniversary of the death of Luis Barahona de Soto was commemorated; he was a writer born in Lucena who settled in Archidona, where he died. A contemporary of Miguel de Cervantes, he combined his medical practice with a love of literature, and his most important work is the epic poem *Las Lagrimas de Angélica*, which is mentioned in *Don Quixote*. The square is situated between the Castillo del Moral and the market hall. Of particular note are the views of the castle’s keep, where ‘Boabdil’, the last king of Granada, was imprisoned following his capture at the Battle of Arroyo de Martín González in 1483.
