It is situated in the space between Juan Jiménez Cuenca Street and Maristas Street. A square dedicated to one of the most revered images of Lucena’s Holy Week, the Holy Christ of the Blood, a carving of American origin—possibly Mexican—brought here by the Dominicans. It is the oldest image in Lucena that is still carried in processions, after Our Father Jesus, and is very likely to date from the 16th century. As is evident, and in keeping with the tradition of the Tarascan Christs, local materials were used in its creation: maize and wood. The square runs alongside the Parish Church of Santo Domingo, the former convent church of the Minims or Victorians, which was built on the site of a chapel dedicated to St Francis of Paula, erected by the town as a votive offering during the plague epidemic of 1680.
