The Benamejí Way of the Crosses is a circular cultural walking route that invites visitors to discover one of the most unique expressions of the town’s folk heritage. Along the way, visitors explore an urban landscape steeped in history, tradition and legend, following the trail of several historic crosses linked to the collective memory of Benamejí. The route starts at Plaza de la Constitución, next to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and takes you through streets, corners and spots of great devotional, ethnographic and scenic value.
The itinerary brings together crosses steeped in legend and other symbolic elements that form part of the local identity, such as the Cross of Morales, the Cross of the Oratory, the Cross of El Pilar, the Cross of García, the May Cross, the Cross of Ismael and the Stations of the Cross of Jesús del Alto. During the walk, you will also come across small niches located in private homes, often adorned with traditional crowns of talc flowers, a characteristic expression of the religious devotion and popular culture of Benamejí. Beyond its heritage value, the route offers an enjoyable and accessible experience to discover the town from a different perspective, combining history, urban landscape and oral tradition.
