The Old Rute Trail

The Old Rute Trail

A route through the foothills and olive groves, featuring historical remains and panoramic views of the surrounding area
A route through the Sierra de Rute, characterised by low-mountain terrain and landscapes dominated by olive groves. The route leads to the site known as Rute el Viejo, a historic settlement situated on high ground that overlooks the surrounding area. This type of location was chosen for defensive reasons. The approach is via country lanes and footpaths starting from areas near the town centre or its outskirts. The route combines sections of track with narrower footpaths, where the terrain can become uneven as you gain altitude. The ascent features a gradual gradient, with some points where the incline becomes steeper. As you proceed, the landscape opens up, offering views of the Rute area and the nearby mountain ranges. At the top, there are remains associated with the ancient settlement, set within a natural environment where Mediterranean vegetation and limestone terrain shape the landscape.
