This stage of the Subbeticana Route begins in Priego de Córdoba, on Calle Carmen Luque Matilla, following the GR-7 E-4 trail and the Colada de la Fuente Carcabuey to Fuente del Chaparral or Fuente de los Torneros livestock track, which runs alongside much of the route. The first few kilometres offer outstanding views over the Genilla and Zagrilla floodplains, as well as panoramic views of the Torre de Uclés, the Lobatejo peak and the Sierra Alcaide. The route passes through a section of particular historical interest, where there are traces of an ancient Roman road, whilst descending towards the banks of the Jaula stream and the Sierra de los Pollos. After passing the Cortijo de Jaula and the pass of the same name, the path continues towards the Cortijo del Cerezo and the scattered settlement of Fuente Barea. The route continues along the CO-7208 road, skirting the Sierra de los Pollos and offering views of La Tiñosa, Pico Bermejo and the Sierra Alhucemas. Near Fuente Barea, a semi-buried Roman pottery kiln has been preserved. Shortly afterwards, we turn right onto the Camino de los Pollos, which climbs through olive groves. The final stretch coincides with part of the Fuente Dura trail (SL-A 260), which takes you through areas of great natural interest such as the Camino del Hogazal and the Fuente Dura spring, Carcabuey’s former water source. The stage concludes as we enter Carcabuey via Calle Sauceda.
