La Laguna

La Laguna

A temporary lake that forms only in years of heavy rainfall in the centre of the Cañada la Laguna, to which it gives its name.
It is situated at an altitude of 1,048 m and is distinctly oval in shape, with dimensions that can reach 100 x 40 m, depending on rainfall. The heavy rainfall that falls in this area during some winters saturates the loamy soil surrounding the small depression in which it is situated, causing the water to pool there. On rare occasions, it overflows and forms the Arroyo el Cangilón stream, which drains it towards the lower parts of the ravine and subsequently turns off towards the Cañada el Cangilón. Due to its seasonal nature and the area in which it is situated, this lagoon is one of the most striking and beautiful landscapes to be found in our Geopark.
