The impressive gorge that this watercourse has carved out over time cuts through this massive limestone formation, which is of great geological interest.
The desolate appearance of this rocky terrain is due to the excessive felling of the holm oaks and scrub oaks that once covered it, followed by overgrazing; as a result, its current use is limited to grazing for livestock and hunting. However, the gradual decline in livestock farming has led to the natural vegetation reclaiming its former territory, a situation which has resulted in forest fires breaking out even on this type of terrain, such as the one that occurred in July 2020.
At the 13.600 km mark on the aforementioned road, there is an entrance leading to several buildings and recreational areas which currently appear to be disused.
Its geological significance makes it worthy of inclusion amongst the outstanding geosites of the Sierras Subbéticas Geopark.
