Rainwater that seeps between the limestone rocks of the Picacho penetrates deep into this layer of earth, which acts as an impermeable base until it emerges through this spring. In years of heavy rainfall, the water from the spring forms a small stream that flows round the farmhouse to the west and disappears amongst some rocks at the foot of the northern face of the Cerrillo de la Viñuela.
The spring consists of a rectangular pediment with two doors, a metal spout and six rectangular basins carved from rock, which are aligned and connected by a recess in the parapet. One of them has a sloping slab for washing clothes. Since 1982, a pumping system has been installed inside the structure forming the fronton, which raises part of the water to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de la Sierra. From 1989 onwards, ownership of the water was divided between the owners of the La Viñuela estate and the Brotherhood of the Virgin of the Sierra.
