A sturdy watchtower or signal tower of Christian origin, it is situated on the mountain peak known as "Hacho", at an altitude of around 1,000 metres, from where the towns of Iznájar, Loja, Rute and Lucena can be seen. It must have been a key watchtower in the border conflicts of the early Middle Ages, given the extensive view it afforded and the important towns it overlooked.
