Alcántara Romero Promenade

Alcántara Romero Promenade

Parque del siglo XIX con biodiversidad única, sequoias centenarias y arquitectura distintiva, catalogado como "Jardín Singular" y "Arboleda Singular".

Alcántara Romero Park was built in 1848, during the tenure of the city’s mayor, José Alcántara Romero. This spacious park is a fine example of 19th-century landscaping. Its grounds are notable for the presence of rare species of great ornamental value, such as centuries-old sequoias, slender plane trees, horse chestnuts and lime trees, false plane trees and a myriad of plant species of all kinds (trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, etc.). Its high biodiversity, the extreme uniqueness of many of its plant specimens, the characteristics of its architectural features (such as the central esplanade of the ‘salon’), as well as the park’s age, make it one of the most outstanding green spaces in the province. However, it is listed as a “Distinguished Garden” and “Distinguished Grove”, housing numerous “Distinguished Trees” within its grounds, according to the provincial catalogue.
