Part of the Andalusia reservoir, known as the ‘Lake of Andalusia’, lies within the municipality of Rute; an ideal setting for all kinds of activities centred on enjoying nature and water sports.

The Genil, the main tributary of the Guadalquivir, flows into this reservoir, which was completed in 1969 and covers an area of 2,522 hectares. With a capacity of 981 hm³, it is the largest in Andalusia.

Located just over 5 km from Rute, the reservoir is, thanks to its potential and unique features, an ideal spot for water sports and hiking, as well as being a perfect area for fishing and birdwatching, given its rich variety of birdlife and fish species.
