Parish of the Holy Family (El Valle)

Iglesia con retablo mayor de Juan Abundio de Burgos, tallado en madera de pino flandes. Destacan las capillas laterales y el camarín de la Virgen.

Founded outside the city walls by the Discalced Franciscans (Alcantarinos) in 1713, on the site of what was already a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Valley. Confiscated in 1835, it remained unoccupied by any other religious community until the end of the last century and the beginning of this one. Used for many years as a shelter for the destitute elderly, in the early 1980s it became one of the homes run by the Jesús Abandonado charity. Significant restoration work has been carried out. The church, which is not very large, consists of a single storey with side chapels. Inside, the main altarpiece, created by Juan Abundio de Burgos, is particularly noteworthy. Executed between 1760 and 1763, it is made of carved and gilded Flemish pine. The central aisle is entirely occupied by the entrance to the niche of the Virgen del Valle, featuring a semicircular arch.
