Valdearenas Nature Reserve and Beach
At Iznájar, the River Genil forms the largest reservoir in the region, known as the “Lake of Andalusia”. It covers areas of Córdoba, Granada and Málaga, has a capacity of over 981 million cubic metres and boasts more than 100 km of shoreline.
Just over a kilometre from the town centre, on the right bank of the reservoir, lies the area known as Valdearenas.
The layout of the reservoir, which includes a new ecosystem rich in bird and fish life, makes the area ideal not only for fishing and birdwatching but also for enjoying a wonderful freshwater beach for water sports or hiking. Furthermore, this natural setting boasts a wide range of leisure and recreational facilities, including the Hotel Caserío de Iznájar, Valdearenas Campsite, two restaurants, a sailing school, a Civil Protection building, and sports courts, making this an ideal place to spend weekends, holidays or enjoy sporting activities.
