Mora House
The building adjoining the Church of San Pedro Mártir de Verona was the former Dominican convent founded in 1575 by the Bishop of Córdoba; in 1836, following the decree of secularisation, it became part of the National Heritage. In 1844, it was auctioned off and came into the ownership of Juan de Navas García. Before becoming municipal property, the building served as an aniseed factory, an oil mill and a wine cellar. It retains a splendid Mannerist porticoed courtyard with semicircular arches and columns on pedestal bases. At its centre stands a fountain surrounded by a garden and palm trees. The building has now been restored and will be converted into a multi-purpose public centre and community facility. The project has restored the central porticoed courtyard and a second rear courtyard as open green spaces for the enjoyment of all citizens. The rest of the building has been designed to be versatile for various functional uses such as exhibitions, teaching, social activities, meetings, etc., with a total of 11 rooms spread across the three floors. A total of 11 rooms spread across the three floors, notably featuring the permanent exhibitions dedicated to ‘Our School’ and ‘Lucena Candle-Making Craft’.
