Calvary Chapel (Priego de Córdoba)

Ermita en una meseta con vistas panorámicas de sierras y olivares, rodeada de cruces de piedra, popular en Viernes Santo para bendiciones.

It must have existed prior to 1593, as by that year there was already awayside shrineon the plateau where it now stands, serving the same purpose: it was a place of worship with a cross or statue wherepilgrimscould pray before entering or leaving the town. On the Calvario, a natural plateau overlooking Priego de Córdoba from which the entire landscape of mountains, villages and olive groves can be seen, stands a small chapel which, although dating from 1700, was rebuilt in 1939. It is surrounded by stone crosses and is a must-visit destination every Good Friday, when the whole town gathers to receive the blessing of Jesús Nazareno.
