Palace of the Counts of Hust – Municipal Library
Located on Calle Flores de Negrón, this old manor house was originally built by the Soto Flores family. The Soto Flores family, possibly of Jewish convert origin, were among the families who settled in Lucena, drawn by the city’s former fame and a longing to live in the land of their ancestors. The 17th-century palace, built in the Mannerist style, comprises a three-storey façade with a series of bays and a two-storey rear wing set at right angles. The façade is constructed of brick, and its central axis features a linteled doorway surrounded by rusticated ashlars flanked by attached pilasters, with a keystone in the architrave bearing the Soto Flores coat of arms. The façade is adorned with rectangular panels, pilasters and coffered sections, demonstrating the interplay between empty and ornamented spaces characteristic of the Baroque style. It currently houses the Municipal Library, the Municipal Archives and exhibition halls.
