Fuente de la Salud Spring

Espacio histórico con influencias manieristas, combina agua, naturaleza y escultura. Destacan bajorrelieves mitológicos y religiosos en mármoles policromos.

Since the 16th century, work has been continuously carried out on this site with the aim of restoring and enhancing this area outside the city walls, where the spring that supplies water to the town has its source. In 1585, a façade was erected over the spring; the design has traditionally been attributed toFrancisco del Castillo,who also designed the Chancillería de Granada. The complex shows a clear influence of ItalianMannerism, combining water and nature with sculpture. The entire surface features polychrome marble rustication; at the centre stands the small temple housing theVirgin of La Cabeza. On the rocks of the spring, a decorative programme of bas-reliefs unfolds, combining a mythological theme – Neptune, Amphitrite and Medusa – with a religious one – a shepherd with sheep.
