Subbetica
Cerro de la Merced
Cerro de la Merced is an Iberian-era archaeological site located some 4 kilometres from the town centre of Cabra, in the province of Córdoba, Spain. It is a quadrangular fortified enclosure inhabited since the 5th century BC and is considered one of the most significant Iberian sites in the Subbética region. The area corresponds to the region known as Turdetania, very close to the border with Bastetania, and lies on a regional route between Ipolcobulcula (Carcabuey) and Licabrum (Cabra).
This site forms part of the so-called ‘Andalusia Iberica’ tourist route. Furthermore, the exhibition ‘Between Iberia and Hispania: The Iberian Palace of Cerro de la Merced in Cabra’, which had previously been held in the town of Cabra, was on display for four months at the Iberian Museum in Jaén from 19 December 2019.
