The House Museum of Our Lady of Araceli

Museo con rica colección bibliográfica, litográfica e iconográfica, destacando enseres y vestidos de la Virgen. Visitas con cita previa.

The Casa de la Virgen is the headquarters of the Royal Archconfraternity and the Obra Pía de María Stma. de Araceli Foundation. Acquired by the brotherhood in 1750, it originally served as accommodation and a residence for the chaplain and the lay brothers of the Sanctuary who went out begging for alms to support the worship of the Sovereign Image. The old house served as a shelter for the rural population travelling to Lucena, as well as a storehouse for the provisions collected by the ‘hermanacos’ during their fundraising campaigns. Its elegant stone façade dates from 1803 and was preserved following the 1990 renovation, as was its architectural style typical of a noble Lucena residence. Since then, it has been transformed into the Araceli Museum, housing a rich collection of books, prints, icons and documents, as well as the objects used in the worship of the Virgin of Araceli and her vestments. *Opening hours: Visits by prior arrangement via tel. 957 516165
