Antonio Quintana was born in Iznájar in 1943. At the age of 17, he moved to Madrid, attending the Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Real Academia de San Fernando. He later worked in the studio of the Santander-born painter Antonio Quirós, who was his mentor for many years. In the early 1970s, he held several exhibitions in cities including Córdoba, Madrid, Santander, Oviedo, Caracas and Athens, amongst others. In 1973, he was awarded second prize in the Adonais Poetry Prize for his book “El ojo único del unicornio”. In 1977, he collaborated with Nobel laureate Vicente Alexandre on a portfolio of engravings based on poems by the Seville-born author. In 1981, he was awarded the Gules Prize of Valencia for his collection of poems “Tirar el pájaro a la piedra”. In 1988, he received a grant for literary creation from the Ministry of Culture for his book “Y convertido en lluvia de oro osó posarse en los ojos de los gatos”. In 2006, he published “Anatomía de los sueña” and wrote his first novel, “Los Espantos”.
