The “Molino Viejo” Olive Oil Museum, housed in a stone building, is a fine example of 19th-century industrial architecture. It is a place where you can step back in time and admire the various methods and devices invented to extract the liquid gold that is olive oil. In the first section, Greek, Egyptian and Roman engravings illustrate what olive oil meant to these peoples and how highly they valued its health and cosmetic benefits, to the extent that they elevated the olive tree and its fruit to the status of sacred objects. In the second section, we find the oil mill, a ‘blood’ mill, presses and storage methods, a belt-driven mill, and the jewel of this museum: a 17th-century beam mill built from oak and limestone.
