Village of Vadofresno

Village of Vadofresno

Ubicado entre Málaga y Córdoba, este lugar ofrece paz, vistas maravillosas, aire puro y es ideal para observar aves. Destaca su ermita del siglo XVIII.

The municipality of Encinas Reales includes a hamlet situated 5.6 km away, known as Vadofresno. Located on the border between Málaga and Córdoba, it is characterised as a true haven of peace, offering visitors wonderful views whilst allowing them to breathe in the fresh air emanating from the ash trees, tamarisk trees and the clear waters of the River Genil.

At the foot of the Iznájar reservoir dam, the River Genil widens to between 20 and 25 metres and, as a result of former sand quarries, some ponds still remain, creating landscapes where tamarisk, ash trees and all manner of birdlife typical of wetland areas thrive. It is a prime spot for birdwatching.

Among the traditional, whitewashed houses, which are home to a total of 106 inhabitants, stands out a splendid chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Belén, patron saint of the village, which was built in 1705 by the 10th Duke of Medinaceli.

In the centre of the village, an old stone basin where grandmothers used to wash clothes has now been converted into a fountain from which fresh, cool water flows, supplying the village.
