Church of St Philip Neri

Church of St Philip Neri

Templo neoclásico con fachada sobria, destaca su retablo mayor del siglo XVIII, mezcla de pintura y escultura, influenciado por Castro e Izquierdo.

Construction of this church, clearly influenced by the Neoclassical style, was completed in 1885. Its façade is remarkably austere, featuring a large brick wall with a stone doorway and an upper oculus; the whole structure is crowned by a straight, split pediment, at the centre of which stands the bell gable, comprising a single section with two openings for bells. Inside, it is a longitudinal-plan church, covered by a barrel vault, where the high altarpiece stands out; this originally came from the now-demolished convent church of Santa Ana. This altarpiece is organised into two sections, intermingling pictorial and sculptural elements. The entire complex, dating from around 1700, shows the influence of Leonardo Antonio de Castro in the paintings and of Francisco Hurtado Izquierdo’s architectural decorative models.
