Church of St Joseph

Church of St Joseph

Templo del siglo XVII, remodelado, con torre prismática de influencia granadina y coro lateral. Destaca por su sencillez interior y dedicación a San José.

The Church or Chapel of San José dates from the mid-17th century, although its exterior and interior have now been extensively remodelled compared to the original. The last renovation took place in the 1950s.

The church is situated behind what was once the Hospital of San José, now a health centre.

This church was founded thanks to the generosity of the priest José Rosales Ruiz, to whom a monument has been dedicated in the form of a bust dating from 1902 and signed by the sculptor Pablo Loyzaga.

The nave was originally designed in the shape of a Latin cross, until the hospital was built in 1963, at which point it was converted into a Greek cross. The entrance to the building was then situated on the right arm of the transept, making this the main façade. The new choir was placed on this very side. Very simple in its interior, the church is crowned by a prismatic tower of Granada-style influence.

As indicated on the drum, the church is dedicated to the glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, and to the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
