Early Christian Basilica of Coracho

Early Christian Basilica of Coracho

Centro de Interpretación ofrece una nave central con columnas, ábsides semicirculares y baptisterio, destacando el origen del cristianismo en Hispania.

The project enabled the restoration of one of the earliest Constantinian basilicas in Hispania, a cornerstone for understanding and disseminating knowledge of the origins of Christianity on the Iberian Peninsula. The Interpretation Centre for the Basilica and the Origins of Christianity was opened in 2008, restoring and showcasing this important archaeological site discovered at the Cortijo Coracho site. The church, with a basilica-style layout and associated with a necropolis, dates from the 4th to the 7th centuries. Its origins go back to the very early days of the imperial legalisation of Christianity during the Constantinian era, in the first half of the 4th century. A visit to the Interpretation Centre allows visitors to view a central nave separated from the side aisles by columns and a choir, a semi-circular western apse containing a priest’s bench, a free-standing baptistery or mausoleum at the foot of the nave, and a rectangular apse on its eastern side. *Further information by telephone: 957 503662 or 605 867 514
