Tourist swing on the Paseo de las Canteras
The Paseo de las Canteras is located in the lower part of Iznájar, on the Paseo de los Donantes de Sangre.
It is at this stunning viewpoint that this Tourist Swing is situated, serving the aim of diversifying tourist flows by inviting visitors to discover many other spots both within and beyond the town centre, drawn by attractions such as this swing, from which families, friends and couples can share their experience of Iznájar through an idyllic photograph of our village’s white houses, crowned by its castle and parish church, with the waters of the Genil at their feet, forming what is known as the ‘Lake of Andalusia’, the Iznájar reservoir.
The project involved the refurbishment of one of the viewing points in the Las Canteras area, with the installation of new street furniture, solar-powered lighting, the renovation of the protective fencing and, as the star attraction, a heart-shaped tourist swing from which locals and visitors can capture a beautiful snapshot with Iznájar and the reservoir in the background.
This walkway follows an old road that once linked the centre of Iznájar with the villages to the south, a road that was rendered obsolete following the initial flooding caused by the construction of the reservoir in the mid-1960s.
When the water level in the reservoir drops, it offers the chance to explore the remains of houses that were submerged, as well as the opportunity to follow a circular route linking up with the road to Cierzos and Cabreras.
The walk features picnic areas and a car park. This area is very popular with anglers due to the easy access from the car park to the reservoir’s shore.
At dusk, it is common to see flocks of birds flying over the reservoir.
