The area around Lake Andalucía

Ubicado en el centro de Andalucía, este embalse ofrece paisajes impresionantes y actividades como kayak, rafting, senderismo y vuelos en parapente.

Lake Iznájar is situated in the middle reaches of the River Genil and is the largest reservoir in Andalusia, and the second largest in Spain. Given its privileged location in the heart of Andalusia, the reservoir borders the provinces of Granada, Córdoba and Málaga, and together with the municipalities that make up the area, it covers an area of almost 1,000 square kilometres and boasts over 100 kilometres of shoreline.

Its proximity to the Costa del Sol and the reservoir’s central location mean it benefits from excellent road links, making it easily accessible from various points.

The lake boasts stunning landscapes that will leave visitors awestruck by their beauty, blending mountain ranges and water in a unique setting. Discover the towns that form part of the Lago de Andalucía Water Sports Centre: Algarinejo, Almedinilla, Benamejí, Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas de San Marcos, Encinas Reales, Iznájar, Jauja, Loja, Palenciana and Rute.

The Lago de Andalucía Nautical Centre offers a wide range of activities to enjoy on the Iznájar reservoir and in the surrounding area. From sailing in a boat to hot-air ballooning, surfing, kayaking and rafting on the Genil, or exploring the Vía Verde del Aceite, these activities are offered with the aim of promoting and boosting tourism in the reservoir area and the Genil river basin. In addition to water sports, activities such as horse riding, paragliding, cycle touring, hiking and paintball are also available. The Iznájar reservoir also offers a relaxed setting that is every bit as good as the beaches of the Costa del Sol. This reservoir has its own designated bathing area for visitors, complete with sun loungers and parasols, stretching for 1.5 kilometres.

The village of Jauja, in Lucena, forms part of the Lago de Andalucía Water Sports Centre and lies between the Genil and Anzur rivers. It is characterised by a landscape dotted with olive groves, with the Genil River as a prominent feature. Notable attractions include the Church of San José and the Museum of Romantic Banditry.

The main attractions to visit in Jauja are: the Romantic Banditry Theme Centre; the Church of San José; the waterwheel on the River Genil; the Aceña; the Laguna Dulce y Amarga Nature Reserve; and the La Viñuela viewpoint.

A wide range of active tourism sports can be enjoyed in Jauja and the surrounding area, particularly water-based activities organised by local active tourism companies.
