Autonomous Local Authority. Divided into two districts (Ejido Alto and Ejido Bajo). Its origins date back to the Islamic Middle Ages (10th–13th centuries), when a small settlement or hamlet sprang up around what is now the Fuente de los Chirimeros. Its church, featuring a magnificent 18th-century altarpiece, and the ethnological museum are particularly noteworthy. The festivities of San Antón are held in January, those of La Cruz in March and those of the Virgen del Rosario in October.
