CLOCK TOWER
If every town has an iconic monument that sets it apart, Almedinilla has its magnificent Clock Tower. It was built in 1934, during the Second Republic, and consists of a brick tower topped with green tiles. What makes this tower so symbolic is that it can be seen from anywhere in the town, as it rises above all the rooftops and flat roofs. It was the old entrance to the market square; today it leads to the Plaza de la Constitución and the town hall. In the past, the clock marked every hour of the day with chimes; that is to say, if it was 10 o’clock, the clock would chime ten times, and it would also mark the half-hours with a single chime. Nowadays, it only chimes at certain times of the day. In 2017, restoration work was carried out on the tower, as it was suffering from deterioration.
