Valdearenas (Iznájar)

Valdearenas (Iznájar)

Espacio natural ideal para pesca, observación de aves, deportes náuticos y senderismo, con playa de agua dulce y rica fauna.

Just over a kilometre from the town centre, on the right bank of the reservoir, lies the area known as Valdearenas.

This is a natural area which, due to its potential and unique characteristics, has been deemed particularly suitable as an ideal location for a long-term municipal development programme, enabling the social and economic progress of the people of Iznaje.

This area has a usable surface area of just over 160,000 m², with a beach stretching 1.5 kilometres. The configuration of the reservoir, including a new ecosystem rich in bird and fish life, makes the area suitable not only for fishing or birdwatching but also for enjoying a wonderful freshwater beach, water sports or hiking.

The Municipal Subsidiary Regulations approved in April 1991 provided for the implementation of the Special Plan for the Regeneration of the Natural Environment “Playa de Valdearenas”, which set out the location, objectives and uses of the site.

The final approval of the Special Plan, justified by its suitability and unique position within the region—owing to its geographical centrality and natural features conducive to promoting tourism—regulates the fact that the village had, somewhat spontaneously, begun to utilise the reservoir for purposes extending beyond those for which it was originally built.

Thus, the Plan’s objectives aim to improve the natural environment through the reintroduction of flora and fauna, generate investment and employment, provide the region with a tourist centre of great potential, regulate land uses by permitting those that are appropriate and compatible with the reservoir’s other purposes whilst ensuring proper harmonisation with urban planning, and ensure the maintenance of the above through the establishment of the necessary monitoring.

The final approval of the Special Plan provided the necessary tool for implementing the actions currently being carried out in the area.
