High Zagrilla

High Zagrilla

A medieval village with a historic spring and a wash house dating from 1935. It celebrates the festival of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in July.

The origins of this village date back to the Middle Ages (10th century), when an Islamic hamlet or settlement sprang up around the spring. In 1935, Mr Niceto Alcalá-Zamora funded the construction of the village washhouse, which is now a popular meeting place for the locals. The festival in honour of the patron saint, the Virgin of Carmen, is held in July.
