Las Comedias Courtyard and San Rafael Tower

Las Comedias Courtyard and San Rafael Tower

Destaca por su mirador y torre histórica, además de una casa cueva usada por una antigua hermandad. Ha ganado premios por su encanto.

We are standing in what was once the medieval souk. From 1531 onwards, it became what we now know as the Patio de las Comedias, a name derived from the theatrical performances that took place here during the 16th century. At the far end, a viewing point stands out next to one of the towers still preserved from the old city wall, the Torre de San Rafael. Inside this tower is a cave house which serves as the headquarters of one of the oldest brotherhoods of Iznaje’s Holy Week, the Hermandad de los Apóstoles.

The Patio de las Comedias has on several occasions won first prize in the ‘corner’ competitions organised by the Mancomunidad de la Subbética and the Córdoba Provincial Council.
