Castil de Campos Museum of Folk Arts and Traditions

Casa tradicional del siglo XIX-XX en Castil de Campos, muestra herramientas y costumbres locales. Espacio restaurado con cocina, cuadra y pajar.

In the village of Castil de Campos, Autonomous Local Authority of Priego de Córdoba, lies this House-Museum, furnished as a traditional country home dating from the 19th century to the mid-20th century, where various artefacts associated with the folk arts and customs of the Priego de Córdoba region are on display. The museum is housed in a small but representative building that has been reinforced and restored for this purpose, whilst respecting the original structure as much as possible.

The space is arranged over two floors, distributed as follows:Ground floor:a small kitchen with a fireplace and a pantry utilising the stairwell, a living room with stone benches and a bell-shaped fireplace, a bedroom, a stable with mangers, and a courtyard with a henhouse and water troughs for poultry. First floor:a hayloft for storing straw, and three rooms, one of which is small, whilst the largest features a salting room for preserving meat from the slaughter and granaries for storing grain. The House-Museum is a private initiative, as the villagers themselves deserve the credit for having acquired the property, carried out its restoration, and obtained the objects needed for the ethnographic exhibition. As we tour its rooms, we shall recall tools and local customs that have almost disappeared, yet are linked like no others to our tradition.
