Chapel of St Peter

Chapel of St Peter

Ermita histórica del siglo XVI con bóveda de cañón, decoraciones de yeserías y estatuas religiosas, ideal para admirar arte sacro y arquitectura antigua.

There is no information regarding its origins, although it is believed to be the oldest of the town’s chapels, dating back to the 16th century. Simple in design, it consists of a single nave covered by a barrel vault with lunettes, which rises from a cornice and is divided by transverse arches; the chancel is covered by a large groined vault.

The high altar features a large rectangular opening framed by decorative plasterwork, leading to a niche housing the image of Jesús de la Humildad, in the Granada style and dating from the mid-17th century, depicting Christ seated after the flagellation. On either side are niches containing the images of Saint Joseph and Saint Peter.

On the side walls of the chancel are the images of Cristo de la Expiración, which can be dated to the second half of the 16th century, and of the Soledad de Nuestra Señora, an image from the late 18th or early 19th century.
