La Barrera neighbourhood
This traditional neighbourhood in Lucena, associated with the Lucena fandango, boasts several notable features. Firstly, the fountain, inaugurated in 1773, makes use of a cistern of attributed Roman origin that stood next to the chapel of Santa Marta. Its red jasper basin is square and features a central column in two sections, the first cylindrical and the second bulbous, crowned by a circular basin and topped with four spouts. The cross was erected in 1632, but was then situated further down from its current location. The former chapel of Nuestra Señora de Araceli in La Barrera, of which only the façade remains, was built around 1694 by the master builder Antonio Martín de la Serena. It originally had an altar and an altarpiece in plasterwork, the work of Alberto de Guzmán and Francisco Hurtado, under the direction of Leonardo Antonio de Castro.
