To reach this route, take the A-339 road towards Cabra-Priego de Córdoba, near the Visitor Centre of the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, very close to Puerto del Mojón. The route runs along the northern foothills of the Sierra de Cabrera. If you wish to see some of the natural park’s most characteristic plant species in their natural habitat, you should follow this trail, which starts at the Visitor Centre itself, passing through various plant formations that follow an ecological succession, until reaching an ideal formation: the holm oak woodland, with varying degrees of pastureland. Species such as the gall oak, the holm oak and the cornicabra olive dominate and add colour to this rugged landscape. Along the route, you will find identification boards at the base of the main botanical species, enabling you to learn to recognise around thirty plants. There are also information panels explaining the characteristics and uses of the most notable ones.
An interesting option is to climb to the Cabrera viewpoint, at an altitude of 1,025 metres, which can be reached by taking a steep path that branches off from the botanical trail itself. From this viewpoint, we can admire the Lapiaz de los Lanchares, the Picacho de la Ermita de la Virgen de la Sierra, the flora, the fauna and the general landscape of the area.
Finally, we must not miss the opportunity to visit the Visitor Centre, where we can obtain comprehensive information about the natural park.
