Zambra

Ubicación con restos de un castillo árabe, iglesia histórica y fiestas tradicionales en octubre y agosto, ofreciendo un rico patrimonio cultural y festivo.

Zambra is divided into two distinct neighbourhoods known as El Barrio (the upper district), on the mountainside, and El Prado (the lower district), bordering the River Anzur.

The earliest records of Zambra date back to Roman times, when it was known as Cisimbrium. Remains of the castle from the Moorish period can still be seen on the summit of a nearby hill, with two towers and a vaulted hall still standing.

In El Barrio, or the upper town, stands the Church of Nuestra Señora de Gracia, the patron saint of Zambra, whose festivities are held in October. In addition to these festivities, the celebrations in honour of the Virgin of Carmen in August are also noteworthy, as are traditions such as that of the Aguilanderos, who fill Christmas nights with traditional carols.
