Jauja, the Bandit
HOME
Its name, of Arabic origin, derives from ‘Xauxa’, meaning a passageway or gate, as its location was the point used by the Arabs to link the lands of Granada with those of Seville. The watermill, which is still preserved today, dates from the Arab period. It is characterised by a landscape dotted with olive groves, with the River Genil as a prominent feature. The Church of San José and the Museum of Romantic Banditry are particularly noteworthy.
