Hornets and Torches

Ubicada en un entorno natural, ofrece rutas senderistas y cicloturistas, miradores con vistas al embalse y avifauna diversa, además de vegetación mediterránea.

The hamlet of Alarconas y Antorchas is situated to the south-east of the municipality of Iznájar, nestled in the “Sierra del Membrillar”. Located on the left bank of the reservoir, it offers a route of great scenic and natural beauty, with sweeping views over the reservoir and the surrounding farmland.

From the highest point of the village, you can see the Sierras Subbéticas, with the peak of “La Tiñosa” standing out.

The village’s paths are ideal for nature-based tourism, such as hiking or cycling routes.

The landscape, dominated by olive groves, also features, particularly along the ‘Arroyo del Perejil’, a wide variety of native forest species typical of Mediterranean woodlands and crops, such as holm oaks, gall oaks, almond trees, pomegranate trees, fig trees, irises, rosemary, saffron, orchids, daisies, gorse and others.

In Alarconas and Antorchas there are several natural viewing points, strategically located along the left bank of the reservoir, which allow for the observation of the area’s rich birdlife: ducks, cormorants, grey herons, grebes, sandpipers, gulls, reptiles such as the ocellated lizard, tortoises, badgers or the ladder snake.

The “Fuente de la Francesa” remains in the area as a vestige of traditional architecture, having served as a public watering hole and washhouse in a not-too-distant past.
