Navas del Selpillar
This hamlet is situated 12 km from the town of Lucena and is surrounded by small hills, including ‘El Cerro las Puertas’, ‘Cerro Zapateros’ and ‘Cerro el Puntal’. Its exact origins are unknown. Of particular importance is the watering hole at the Fuente del Pilar, which dates back to Roman times. Its location was utilised by the railway line to establish Moriles-Horcajo station, which served Baeza as part of the ‘Tren del Aceite’ (Oil Train) line. Today, the ‘Vía Verde del Aceite’ (Oil Greenway) runs through the area.
Near the Horcajo area, there were medicinal baths in Roman times, which disappeared over time. Within these baths there was a chapel dedicated to the Virgin of Health, which is why the fair in honour of this Virgin is held on 15 August. Its patron saint is the Virgin of Los Remedios, who is enshrined in the parish church of this village. Its main festival is held in the penultimate week of August and is in honour of this Virgin.
