Iberian settlement ‘El Cerro de La Cruz’

Explora un asentamiento ibero con estructuras antiguas y reconstrucciones, rodeado de un paisaje pintoresco ideal para el senderismo en Almedinilla.

This archaeological site will transport you back to the era of the ancient Iberian civilisation.

Declared a Site of Cultural Interest, it is one of the fewLate Iberian Periodsettlements (2nd–3rd centuries BC) to have been excavated in Andalusia.

Immerse yourself in history as you explore this Iberian settlement. You can admire the remains of an ancient society and discover how the Iberians lived and organised themselves in this region. The settlement features impressive structures, dwellings, storehouses, granaries and defensive walls that offer a fascinating insight into daily life in those times.

The archaeological remains of the Iberian settlement are meticulously preserved and have been the subject of exhaustive research and study. As you walk through the site, you will be able to appreciate the details of Iberian architecture and urban planning, as well as the objects discovered, which offer a unique insight into Iberian culture and their way of life.

The buildings have a stone base and walls of adobe bricks or rammed earth; in some cases, the outlines of the windows, doors or holes for the posts that supported the second floor of these buildings are still visible.

As it was completely razed to the ground with the arrival of the Roman Empire, to help visitors better imagine what the Iberian settlement of Almedinilla was like, houses from the period and a pottery kiln typical of this culture have been reconstructed, complete with the decoration and utensils that would have been found at the time.

The natural surroundings of the Iberian settlement are also impressive. The beauty of the landscape, with its green fields and rolling hills, creates a serene and picturesque atmosphere that invites you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. You can also go hiking and explore the surrounding area, discovering other natural treasures that Almedinilla has to offer.
