Archaeological Museum

Ubicado en un edificio histórico, destaca por su "Patio de Columnas" con mármol rojo y una vidriera multicolor, exhibiendo piezas desde el Paleolítico.

The Egabrense Archaeological Museum was established by Ministerial Order on 15 January 1973, with its headquarters located within the Town Hall. In 1984, it moved to the building that formerly housed the Bank of Spain, now the Casa de la Cultura, where it has remained ever since. We enter through a wrought-iron gate flanked by four columns of red Cabra marble. It occupies most of the ground floor, with the exhibits arranged around the ‘Patio de Columnas’ (Courtyard of Columns), so named for its 10 columns of veined red marble that form a square enclosure, the central part of which is covered by a multicoloured stained-glass window that allows light to pass through. The exhibits have been acquired through: excavations carried out at the “Villa del Mitra” and “La Veleña”, chance finds, surface collections, donations and purchases. They have been arranged chronologically: from the Palaeolithic era to the present day. The entire exhibition bears witness to the importance that Cabra and its surroundings have held throughout history.
