Doña Mencía Historical and Archaeological Museum

Doña Mencía Historical and Archaeological Museum

Museo en Andalucía ofrece un recorrido didáctico-cronológico por restos desde el paleolítico hasta la época árabe, con piezas de más de 400 yacimientos.

The Doña Mencía Historical and Archaeological Museum holds the distinction of being one of the oldest museums in Andalusia, having been founded in 1954 by César Sánchez, José Jiménez and Alfonso Sánchez, the founders and curators of this long-standing institution in Doña Mencía. Located on the second floor of the ‘Juan Valera’ Cultural Centre, it displays artefacts from over four hundred archaeological sites in our province and the neighbouring area of Jaén.

A visit to the Doña Mencía Historical and Archaeological Museum is organised chronologically and educationally, presenting artefacts from the Palaeolithic, Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iberian, Roman, Visigothic and Arab periods.
